Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Assistant
The Governance and Research Centre (GRC) is looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Assistant to support the Centre’s results measurement, learning, and accountability processes. This position is essential in ensuring that GRC’s projects achieve their objectives and contribute meaningfully to governance and policy development efforts.
The MEL Assistant will collaborate with program teams to develop and refine MEL frameworks, indicators, and data-collection tools. The individual will assist in tracking project outcomes and ensuring that all activities meet donor reporting standards. The candidate should be comfortable working with data and managing multiple tasks at once.
Data collection will be a key part of the role. The MEL Assistant will conduct field visits, administer surveys, and verify data accuracy. The role requires someone who can collect, clean, and store data in organized systems. Familiarity with digital data-collection tools is an added advantage.
The assistant will also participate in data analysis and contribute to progress reports. This includes drafting sections of narrative reports, preparing charts, and organizing MEL documentation. Clear communication and attention to detail are essential competencies.
Learning and reflection activities are another important part of the job. The MEL Assistant will help identify lessons learned during project implementation, gather success stories, and highlight areas for improvement. These insights help GRC strengthen its programming and improve future interventions.
The position requires a proactive individual who is eager to learn and grow. The ideal candidate should have basic knowledge of MEL principles or a strong desire to develop MEL skills. Training and mentoring will be provided for successful candidates.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Support development of MEL frameworks and plans.
- Assist with field data collection and verification.
- Maintain MEL databases and documentation.
- Prepare monitoring reports and data summaries.
- Support learning workshops and reflection activities.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and challenges.
- Provide administrative support for MEL activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s in Statistics, Sociology, Development Studies, or similar field.
- Basic understanding of M&E concepts.
- Strong organizational and data-handling skills.
- Proficiency in Excel; knowledge of ODK/Kobo is a plus.
- Ability to travel for field assignments.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
